After a year of planning, a small group of individuals established Rehoboth Church Preservation Society, Inc. as a 501 (c ) 3 in 2008,
In 2010, the Society obtained title to the property. Facing costly preservation projects, the Society sought and was awarded two grants in 2010 for foundation replacement, one from the Marion Stedman Covington Foundation, and the other from the Hillsdale Fund. The work continues.
Rehoboth Methodist Church, a simple Greek revival structure, was built of cypress and heart pine in 1853 on one and seven eighths acres of land Joseph S. Norman sold to the trustees of the church in July 1850 for a small fee.
Rehoboth remained an active Methodist Church through 1969. By then, the church had only four members who realized they could not keep the church open.
From 1970 until 1976, volunteers from Plymouth United Methodist Church continued to hold a few services each year. In 1976, Rehoboth Church Foundation was organized and managed occasional services and activities at the old church for about thirty years.
In 2008, Rehoboth Church Preservation Society, Inc., a non profit, was established . The Society continues to hold occasional church services, cultural programs, and tours, while addressing a series of maintenance and preservation needs.
To preserve and maintain Rehoboth Methodist Church and grounds so that this landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, continues to have an active role in the spiritual and historic/cultural community.
